She then landed a job with the Columbia Broadcast System as a radio journalist, reporting on the war from London. She met Duncan MacLeod in 1940 during the Blitz,  and the two became lovers. During an air raid on London, October 13, 1940, Duncan and Diane were trapped in a tube station that had been sealed by fallen debris.  A gas leak killed them before rescue arrived, but only MacLeod revived.

Trapped

After her death, MacLeod tracked down her next of kin in the United States, an aunt in Colorado.  Using one of the War Ministry's direct lines, he contacted her and between them they arranged for Diane's interment on a mountain near her aunt, only to by stalled by the difficulties in transporting a body in wartime. Lord Sewell's intervention, however, cleared the last obstructions.
