Canaan ruled over The Zone, a place in Seacouver that was so lawless the police supposedly didn't dare to go there.

In 1993, during one of his speeches, the young Watcher, Mark Wells was stabbed. Soon thereafter, at Joe Dawson's request, Duncan MacLeod and Charlie DeSalvo went to investigate in order to determine if Canaan was an immortal or not.

MacLeod determined he was not immortal, and Canaan was defeated by Duncan and Charlie.
