Jimmy Sang was a mortal and former student of Charlie DeSalvo. He had enough talent to launch himself into a movie deal as an up and coming martial arts movie star.

As a nod to his friend and mentor, Jimmy arranged to use the old dojo as a movie location, but when a stuntman died on the set, Duncan MacLeod was the first to realize that the real target had been Jimmy. After making inquiries, MacLeod discovered the movie was based upon Jimmy's youthful career as an enforcer for the local Tong, and the Tong leader, Leong, now wanted Jimmy dead.

Jimmy apparently did not appreciate any help from anyone, and Charlie observed "The man's got a major attitude problem....it's Jimmy Sang against the world. " Eventually, Jimmy did turn to Grandfather Lao, a Buddhist monk he used to speak with when he lived in the neighborhood. It was then that he finally told MacLeod his story; "I was a kid. Half my family died in a stinking freighter when we came to this country. Eight of us living in two rooms, you know. My father and his brother... was making half the minimum wage in some damn kitchen." So he joined the Tong seeing it as a way out, but his father threw him out, despite the fact that Jimmy had joined to save him. "He said he'd rather be dead than dishonored."

Lao and Jimmy Sang

It was then that an assassin attacked, missed Jimmy and killed Lao. Jimmy immediately went after Leong. When confronting him, Leong demanded respect for providing him food, shelter, and a money. Jimmy was scornful, "You gave me a gun, Johnny! You taught me how to bleed our own people like a leech! But now... now that will end." Leong however was ready for the attack and had men on hand, Jimmy was restrained and Leong cut his hand with a blade, then loaded him into a coffin to be fed into the crematorium. When MacLeod shows up, Jimmy is able to use the distraction to escape the coffin. MacLeod talks him out of murdering Leong.

He is last seen working in Lao's garden and asks MacLeod, "Do you believe that stuff about... coming back until you get it right? I hope so, because I'm sure as hell not getting it right this time."
