Lawrence Dicente, who liked to call himself Dice, was a graduate of MIT, and in 1998 was working in Paris for Keram Enterprises, a toy manufacturing company.  He was an expert computer designer and programmer, AI expert, and world class computer gamer.

The CEO of the company was an immortal, Devon Marek, who had held a grudge against Duncan MacLeod for centuries. Dice was told that MacLeod and several other 'players' would be taking part in a live action simulation for a new game design within the headquarters building. Devon told him it was virtually reality. Dice monitored the action from security and saw MacLeod trying to rescue the girl - Margo - and escape from Marek's men, who were actually hit men sent hunt him down.

From his monitors, Dice, witnessed Marek kill a security guard. Dice then told Marek that he did not want to be a part of it any longer. Marek threatened Dice, telling him if he left, he would die. As the action progressed, Dice finally seemed to grasp the seriousness of the situation as he witnessed MacLeod take out each of the teams of hunters sent to get him.

MacLeod arrived at the computer room, and knocked Dice out. When the man revived, MacLeod told him in no uncertain terms that everything was real, that this was no simulation. Dice, frightened of Marek, made a deal with MacLeod, and Dice used his monitors to help MacLeod.

After Marek was defeated, Dice was told to leave, and after the police arrived, Dice was told by MacLeod 'you never saw me.'

In 1998, Dice would be recruited into theWatchers by Joe Dawson, ever the oportunist, who served as his mentor. He was graduated 1st in his class of 105 in 1999. Currently he is on special assignment.
