Shandra Devane was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was of Hindi - Irish ancestry, her mother immigrated from India in 1958.
An art historian, she earned the position of Chair of the Art History Department at Seacouver State University. She was instrumental in locating and recovering the lost Benagal Kali after centuries of obscurity. Unfortunately, her role made her a target of a vengeful Immortal, Kamir. She was, however, friends with the Immortal, Duncan MacLeod, whom she could occasionally bully into teaching the occasional art history seminar, and who defended her life and safety, though without her knowledge.
