He later discovered the body of nurse Barbara Madison and linked her to MacLeod. Randi McFarland, a local news reporter managed to pry the fact that a black T-Bird was spotted at the murder scene from him. Duncan MacLeod became the prime murder suspect.

When Dr. Paul Wilder later kidnapped the persistant Randi McFarland and was about to experiment on her, she was saved by MacLeod. Duncan and Dr. Wilder fought and Wilder was stabbed with his own scalpel. Sgt. Herrald arrived in time to process the crime scene and demand a statement from MacLeod. MacLeod told Herrald he would give him one the next day.
